$1 Victory
It's 6pm after school, you drag your heavy feet home, lugging your school bag, with the shirt of your uniform peeking out from your pants/ skirt. In a distant you hear the sweet jingle of the magic gold bell, the familiar yellow/ red umbrella, and the uncle with the metal cart sets into the scene. Ahhhh.... what a beautiful sight.... You fish for a dollar coin from your pockets, and brisked your way towards the man. "Uncle, one cone mix!" Sweet sweet victory...
All Singapore children should be familiar with the scene above, the "ling ling" ice cream man as we know it, is a pleasant man to meet on a hot and humid day, tired after school. Kids will rush to get their sweet delight after class, where the ice cream uncles will strategically park their motorcycle outside school area, or under the HDB void deck.
This mobile ice cream stall carries many flavours of ice cream, most commonly seen flavours are red bean, chocolate mint, raspberry ripple, durian, and yam (and of course many more!), and you can have the choice of having them sandwiched between waffle biscuits, or a piece of bread! Frolicking the edges of the ice cream block is the most satisfying thing to do!
The other local favourite is the mix cone ice cream, where a mix of strawberry, chocolate and usually sweet corn flavoured ice cream, injected with doses of atap chees (seed of a fruit), placed on a waffle cone. Generous uncels and aunties usually give a big servings of triple scoops, imagine our joy! :D :D :D
