A Taste of Love

Entering into the month of July signals the start of the annual Singapore Food Festival, which the Singapore Tourism Board has introduced as “A Fresh Taste of Tradition” in celebration of Singapore’s Golden Jubilee.

This month, we are delighted to explore the well-loved local food scene with Jiayi & Amos at Albert Centre Market & Food Centre.

A plate of piping hot char kway teow, a bowl of coconut-rich laksa, a set of the all-famous Hainanese Chicken Rice, two rolls of scrumptious popiahs, a plate of wonderfully peanut-tossed rojak, and lastly a cup of thirst-quenching cold lime juice. That’s how we Singaporeans love our food – uniquely ours.

Some call it gluttony… They do not understand that as Singaporeans, our love for food knows no boundaries. There’s just something so enticing about our local traditional delicacies that make all of us go “oooh” and “ahhh” when greeted with such a mouth-watering sight.

Singapore has come a long way since gaining independence in 1965 & food has played an integral role in establishing & encouraging social integration among our community today. The potpourri of food we have in Singapore is an expression of our harmonious multi-racial & multi-cultural population. With hawker centres present in every neighbourhood, they have now become a hallmark of everyday life in Singapore today.

Nothing makes us more excited than our simple local fare, which could very well leave us in a chopstick fight for the delightful chwee kueh that has the most amount of chai po (preserved radish). Through meals, bonds are forged, friendships are made & relationships formed.

Taking a selfie with our table of food - no one does it better than us.

Today, Singapore’s food culture has evolved to become a quintessential part of our cultural identity & heritage, serving as a major attraction for both locals & tourists alike.

It is our national identity, our life’s pleasure, our very own taste of love.
